Thank you for praying about ou r transition back to Kiev! We arrived one week ago, feel rested and have begun to tackle a busy calendar. Extreme heat in the city has been a challenge (we looked everywhere for electric fans and they’re sold out) but we’ve already met with some students and seminary directors, and one potential instructor.
We decided to rent a furnished apartment until next spring, for the sake of ministry. It takes way too long to find, clean up and move into an apartment for us to get it done before we start teaching. By waiting we will have time to search carefully for just the right home.
Please pray as we:
- Recruit students for a new school year
- Put finishing touches on our courses
- Befriend our new neighbors
We appreciate you, our teammates, so much!

Dear Prayer Partner,
I had a great three weeks in Oregon last month! As you know, Cheri and I are in the USA (North Carolina) during this semester seeking to bring our support level up and to promote our Kiev missionary-training projects. Back in my home-state of Oregon I enjoyed seeing relatives, long-time friends and faithful ministry partners in eight cities.
I definitely felt the Lord’s love as people responded with enthusiasm over the progress made in Eastern Europe and re-affirmed their commitment to our ministry goals and plans. One family donated funds for a classroom video projector and others made much-needed pledges toward our monthly support.
Personal Support is still needed. We went from a monthly shortage of $2,088 to only $1,383, thanks to several new support pledges. But we still need the remaining 66% to come in. Please pray that either 100% of the pledges are made before the end of this summer or that the equivalent of one year’s pledges ($16,800) would be made in special offerings before we leave. Next stop, California! I will be visiting churches and supporters in northern California over the next two weeks. Please play for safety in travel and joyful interaction with friends.
Blessing,
Rich and Cheri
Monthly support needed: $1,383.00 Did you know that just 25 additional pledges of $56.00 per month will bring us to full support? |

In Ukraine, pastors are the key to releasing young people for cross-cultural ministry. Unfortunately, many of them are a roadblock to missionary service. So I was enthusiastic when I had the opportunity to address a conference of over 400 pastors near Kiev.
I was invited as a representative of Kiev Theological Seminary, where I head up the World Missions department. This was my chance! |

Praise the Lord for a great ministry at the conference in Byela Tserkov, Ukraine last Wednesday. Over 400 pastors were gathered to explore the concept of “external missions," (what we call foreign missions). My part was to encourage the pastors to send their members for cross-cultural training before sending them overseas, in order to avoid missionary attrition. Many talked to me afterwards about our training program and asked for brochures. Pray that our enrolment will increase next year.
